Default Just bought an '05 Audi A4 1.8T

hey all,

Just bought a black 05 quattro 1.8T today. It has 93k kms but looks and drives mint. Not rattles, no scratches, and the leather still looks good. In any case, I don't really know anything about A4's, or German cars for that matter. One question is though, when should my timing belt be replaced? Would it be safe to drive this car to 120k km's without changing the t-belt? I know it's pretty labour intensive as the whole front end has to come off.

Anyway, glad to be part of the Audi world.

B

i just bought my '05 1.8tq 3 weeks ago...its black as well...i love it so much...i recently fogged the rear break lights and put a set of 18" vip furious on her. audis are so nice to drive, i previously drove a lexus but in my opinion euro > jap. but thats me.

anyways i believe they recommend u to change the timing belt around 110,000km. but i think im going to do mine around 95 - 100 as many people recommended on this board.

all in all, welcome!

The 1.8T is an interference engine, which means a timing belt (or rather tensioner) failure will result in catastrophic failure. It is better to do it sooner than later. Timing belt job, approx. $1500; new motor, approx $4000. You might as well do the water pump, tensioners, rollers, seals, etc. when you do the timing belt.

I recently done mine myself at 130 000 km just last week the parts are not all expensive but it's the labor to take all of the front off the car (bumper,rad,a/c condenser, head lights.) that is costly. So I did it myself and it took 8-9 hours.
