Maximum torque rating for the CVT transmission is between 230-240Lb/Ft. In order to deal with this, Neuspeed offers a slightly detuned CVT chip.

Anyone knowing how much truth is in this statement ?

I am asking because an APR Stage I upgrade (91 octane) provides that torque already. Is it going to put too much stress on the tranny ?

After some research... and from different sources:

The Audi Multitronic CVT was developed in collaboration with the transmission manufacturer Luk. It is available on the Audi A4 and A6 2.0, 1.8T, 2.4 V6, 3.0 V6 of 220 hp and 300 Nm, likewise on the 2.5 V6 turbo-diesel of 163 hp and 310 Nm.

300 Nm = 221lb-ft torque.

Most previous CVTs use a steel V-section belt invented by Dutch CVT specialist Van Doorne. How much torque the CVT withstand depends on the design of belt, which at its best (Nissan Primera) is 150 lbft. Instead, Audi developed a chain to replace the belt. The steel chain consists of 1025 link plates and 75 pairs of pins. It is almost as flexible as the V-section belt but much stronger. Therefore it can handle up to 221 lb-ft of torque.


Like I said... APR Stage I ECU upgrade 1.8T (91octane) claims 209hp / 236lb-ft. It would be interesting to know if this mod is going to destroy the tranny in the long run.

Any other inputs ?
