rusty... Don't mean to burst your bubble, but you are driving an audi dude.. You won't get superior performance out of cheap branded tires. Bottom line.

There's guys out there that swear by the cheapies, but if you're asking this forum (which you are...) the consensus seems to be don't cheap out. If it's not in the budget and you have to scrimp for cheap or no-name tires, you'll get what you pay for. Simple as that. If you read up on Tirerack or other sites about tires in a specific category, the best rated ones are typically the more expensive ones.

we're all in here because we want to help. dont take everything so defensively.

avg pay for tires would be 500-700 for winter tires. nothing wrong with that.

so lets say we take the variable of 500 bucks /4 tires = 125 per tire.
u use these tires for 6 years (because they have half life of every year due to the fact you only use them for 6months)

500/6(3 years technically) = $83 per year, $166 per full life.

really, its not too much and in the end you profit from it.

Go used and save some money. Look at this 16" Audi Rims with Snow tires for $400.

I'm not saying you should always cheap out, but if you are strapped for cash, there are still options. A good all season tire is not going to perform well in lower temperatures when there is snow or ice on the ground, don't even try to tell me different. The compound isn't made for that, if it was these tires wouldn't last very long. Any winter tire made today is going to be made of a compound specific to winter driving conditions.

That being said, ok so a cheap tire might only last you a few seasons , by that time maybe you've got a better income and you can afford something that will last longer and perform even better.

Now since we are giving our opinions that weren't asked for...

1. Get a bus pass

2. Sell your car, buy a honda, and a good set of winters.

If you tell me I'm wrong when I'm pretty sure I'm not, I'm going to get defensive so deal with it.

When did we ever said anything like go all cheap? We mentioned that for certain ideal conditions u should have some ideal quality to handle that kind of conditions. We're not trying to pull u down bro, we're just saying anything can happen, and its best to be prepared for the worst. Sure the opinions like taking a bus or go honda is great for 'temporary use', like u said, if income goes good u can always go back to getting an audi. Like I mentioned before, there are different qualities of winter tires.. Sure they are made for the same conditions, but better quality makes u safer and stop sooner, just like any other tire out there. But hey, ur car ur choice, we just giving u the reasons why u should consider what brand and type to get.

Winter tires don't cost money they save money. You are using tires all year long, putting on winter tires will make your summer tires last twice as long, the only real extra expense is the wheels and the fact that winter tires are softer and will wear quicker. When you look at traffic tie-ups during winter, the majority are created by people w all-season (I call them no season) tires. The stopping distance in cold weather is far superior, and if it snows your hooped without them. But if you can be selective and not drive when it's cold or snowy you'll be fine.

All it has to do is save one little accident and they've paid for themselves many times over. You've got a very good car, put on the proper tires.

Here is my 2 cents. I was trying to go through the winter with my A/S's, and we had a snowfall last Saturday-Sunday - the drive on the 401 was HAIRY!!!!

Purchased some winters, got them at a good price (Simply Tire!) and what a difference! Have not had a large snowfall as yet, but the difference in the snowfalls that we have had are huge.

Get them you won't be sorry.

Now, I remember when I had my Subaru, I had all seasons and did 2 winters with them - no problem - but not all all seasons perform the same - different A?S's on the Audi, big difference in handling. Is it possible to survive without it? Yes, but the control you have with them on is the difference.

The stop and go we have on the DVP or the 401 will make you happy you have them on.

Here is my 2 cents.
Keep the speed!!! down in the snow, and keep a good distance, and u can drive with all season tires with no problems. A lot of people forget that and they think when they put winter tires they can drive faster. It is not SUMMER SEASON.
For sure winter tires peform better then all season tires.
Im using ultra high performance all season tires Pirelli Pzero Nero AS and i can say they're doing good job in winter time when they new but they're cost more money then another tires.
On my other car im using winter tires Goodyear Nordic from Canadian Tire and only what i can say for the money they perform very well.
