Audi CVT 01J Rebuild Kit: eBay Motors (item 220233879915 end time Oct-27-10 20:34:27 PDT)

I found this CVT rebuild kit on ebay while just searching accesories and wondering if this would be maybe something i should be getting. Ive got 191,000+km on my B6 Avant now and so far no problems but maybe getting tranny rebuild would be a good idea sooner rather than later.

tell me what ya think,

Thanks
Dan

Is your tranny functioning well now? Are you doing regular maintenance ie. tranny oil and filter change? Are there any indicators that your tranny is going to fail in the near future?

These are the questions I would ask myself before spending any money. As an example I would love to get light weight rotors and new pads but can't justify it because the brakes are working perfectly right now and still have plenty of life in the pads.

Well my tranny seems to be still running strong, but since you hear of these trannys going for some even before 100,000km and mostly having to be replaced or rebuilt by the time they hit the 160,000km mark and since i have 191,657km(something close to that) i thought maybe it would be best to get it rebuild and not wait until it goes bang on me.

What would be the difference between buying it now and buying it when the tranny brakes. What if - God forbids!!! - you have an accident and the car is write off ? Then you have to sell the kit. Headache!

I look at it this way, we change our timing belts usually before they actually are bad, rather that wait for it to go kerplunk on us we replace it right??? And timing belts are not cheap to do and yet we get it done as not to incur bigger problems later. I think the same for myself in this case, i havent heard of a lot of CVT trannys especially in the B6 going over 180,000km, i have close to 200,000km!!!

Ive read of ppl doing this on Audizine, ill do a little bit more research tho, i thought id ask you guys for some advice.

I agree that preventative or predictive maintenance is always good. It comes down to your comfort level in knowing your car better than anyone else. If it helps you sleep at night and your ok spending the money than go for it. I would probably do the same if conditions were the same.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with fixing/replacing/upgrading parts in your car that you know will fail eventually. Peace of mind is a priceless thing

question now is, is that kit on ebay any good?

Well Iam going to do a little bit more research into it but it is the 7-plate design with the upgraded components so technically it will be better than when the tranny came out of the original factory. Ill ask on audizine because i saw some posts there already.
