The mechanic seemed top be quite good.

does anyone here know how I can verify if the Breather Pipe from the Oil Filter housing..really needs to be replaced....is this something that can easily be seen?

I am sceptical about this diagnoses

thanks
ok so i took my car into an independent audi mechanic today..i am curious if his diagnosis will be the same or different than the dealer

he should call me this morning..if it is different how do i know who is telling the truth?

As previously mentioned, try the flush first (including reverse flush and even compressed air if needed) and if it does not work then replace the heater core along with all new G12 mixed 60/40 with distilled water for cold climates. Do not exceed 60% G12 / 40% water mix.

Replaced a heater core on a B5 A4 and opened the end tanks on the old core to see what was going on. Every vertical tube in the core was plugged at one end with brown fibrous material about the size of a pencil eraser.

I was just talking to a new mechanic (well known) who recommended a Heater Core Flush using Kleen Flo Rad Flush
He said they have a pump that circulates this through the heater core and it almost always fixes the problem
They flush it for 1 hour
Also it is only 100.00 plus taxes

My previous mechanic says that flushes never work and I will have to replace the heater core anyway
New heater core is 800.00 (labour and parts)

So I am getting conflicting opinions

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!
ok I had the heater core flush and it worked fine. I have heat !
The mechanic also replaced 2 breather pipes

so he charged me 159 in parts (breather pipes etc.) 220 in labour and 55 to scan codes plus tax = 500.00

seems a bit high...any thoughts?

ALSO..I picked up my car and lots of smoke coming out of the exhaust..is this normal after a flush?
