G4 or G5
Hello, I've searched the forum and I came up with both answers. I am looking to change fluid in rear diff. I phoned Audi dealer and vw dealer, and neither will tell me or give me a striaght answer. I have the good manual on dvd and it give part number G-005-000. Can anyone help? I know it 's 75w-90 gear oil but there is a diff between G4 and G5. 02 A4 1.8 T.Q. Please help???

Re: G4 or G5
You can use either in your diff. GL-4 will do a fine job protecting the components in your differential. GL-5 will do a better job.
GL-5 has a higher concentration of extreme pressure additives. EP additives are mildly corrosive to soft metals (brass, bronze, aluminum). The synchros in transmissions use brass blocker rings. So you should stay away from GL-5 in your transmission, but it is fine for diffs.
