Chipped Clear Coated

Chipped Clear Coated
was washing the car last night at one of those presure washing facilities, when i noticed a large (~3in long x 1/8" wide) scratch on the drivers side door after several minutes of ranting i took a closer look at it and it seems only to be the clearcoat that is scratched off. this has happened to me in the past with our 91 honda which i never got repaired as we knew we were selling it.
i have not taken it to a body shop yet, just wondering what the body shop will remommend.
and any calgary member a good body shop recommendation would be appreciated

spoke to the bodyshop and they said that with out looking at the car most likely will need to repaint the entire door and blend in the quarter and back door, and with the car being silver that is gonna really be tough. however the body shop did say that maybe they might be able to respray and buff out the clearcoat which is what i would prefer as silvers are very difficult to match.

I would definitely try polishing first... the expense is minimal, and if you're happy with the results, there's no reason to give the bodyshop any of your hard earned bucks. I've had good luck with Meguire's products and will recommend them to everyone. They offer different compounds of polish, so you can start with a more abrasive polish to start, then work your way to as fine of a compound as you want/need to go... take your time, be patient, and hopefully the scratch is repairable at home. Good luck.

Re: Chipped Clear Coated
I've taken out scratches similar to what you've described with a good rubbing compound. Do it by hand, a power polisher and rubbing compound can quickly damage your paint job.
