Changing the timing belt on a 2003 A4 1.8
Hi everyone,
new to the forum and to Audis. I bought an A4 2003 and I plan to change the timing belt myself. I tryed to find the service manual to take a look at the overall job and I wasn't able to find it.
What I need to know is if I need special tools? Are the valves moved by hydraulic lifters? If yes, do I really need to change the belt to avoid engine damage if a failure occur? I've owned a WV jetta 1.8 1990 before, is the engine similar (but with turbo)?
Thanks a lot!

yes you need to change the belt. the engine is an interference engine so if it fails, it will blow up the engine. trust me!!
its not difficult to do if you have mechanical know how. Go to audizine.com , if you search there you will find a formal write up on how to do it and what you need to buy. You will be changing the water pump at the same time.
