Changing brakes...need help with prices
Hello,
So I just came back from the dealer and they are quoting me $500 for JUST the front brakes...
I thought that was pricey and asked an independent shop (Level Auto)...they are saying $470 for just the front brakes...
This involves replacing the pads and the rotors...because I'm told the rotors cannot be reused...is that correct?
Also is the price accurate? I mean aren't independent shops supposed to be a lot cheaper?
Also I was thinking if I should purchase the parts myself...I know its posted alot here...that site where people buy OEM audi parts for cheap...can't remember the name of the site...if someone could help me out with that...i'll greatly appreciate it...
Also would your recommendation be to buy the rotors and pads for all 4 so I get a better deal and change the rear later on when they are worn? or just buy the front rotors and pads...and buy the rear later...
thanks in advance guys...
Myron

What's the breakdown of that $500 quote? How much are they charging you for brakes and pads? How much for labour? That'll tell you what's involved.
I would suggest doing it yourself. It's relatively easy and you could probably add https://www.audiforum.ca/general-d-i...g-rusting.html project as well while you're there.
You mean http://www.ecstuning.com/

I would also suggest, Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels but $500 is pretty darn cheap for brakes, Here you would be lookingat around $800-$1000

Thank you...I'm in the process of buying some ERP rotors from a seller called "apexlimit"
I have to call them tomorrow and get a price quote...they are located in Toronto and thats a plus point because I can avoid all the shipping charges.
Also...how do I know if my car has a brake wear sensor? or do all B6 models have them? I'm only asking because if they have a sensor...I can't buy the ERP ones because they don't seem to have the sensors...
Thanks,
Myron

Re: Changing brakes...need help with prices
Prices seem about right. IMO, go with oem products as i had aftermarket rotors in both of my fronts and both squeeled like no tomorrow. My mechanic bought both oem front rotors for $258 and both front brake pads for $119. Labour was about $96. All in all the bill came to about $506 including gst. Have had no problems since. Like all shops tho, go to one that has been recommend or a shop you truly trust.
