Re: Best oil Lubro Moly & Pentosin in Canada
Honnestly I do not know anymore...
I just commute and never really push the car to the limit like drag racing, full throttle...etc
However having a 1.8T with 21,000km now I have educated myself and have chosen LubroMoly fully sunthetic for half the price of Mobil1 especially after realizing some potential facts which may be true but not for sure, heck why even bother and risk it then ?
Mobil = Exxon...Do I need to elaborate more lol
I do believe Mobil 1 now contains Group III oils.
And remember Mobil only says "full synthetic" which may mean use of Group III oils.
Anyway, Mobil is suspiciously quiet. I guess after bashing everybody for years for not fully synthetic oils they joined the club
As far as I am concerned, the longevity of an oil is determined by its additive package, whereas its flow characteristics in extreme heat and cold is based on its synthetic vs conventional properties. So if I were to think of "how many miles" I could go without changing the oil, I would consider the overall additive package (like Mobil's supersyn) but if I was constantly starting the car in -30F weather or 120F stop and go traffic, then the "synthetic" element would factor in as well. Finally
"Synthetic" therefore is not better by virtue of being "synthetic"; but it is definitely better than "natural" by virtue of being uniform and consistent in quality and final performance.
To each his own as long as you make your OWN decision...

Lubro Moly 5W-40 Synthoil Preminum is group III - Bob Is The Oil Guy
i do still believe that the lubro moly is an excellent product, but they themselves do not recommend it for our engines, but rather recommend their 0w40 group IV oil...

^^^ I would check and see if they have the 0w40 which is group IV synthetic, if not, Canadian tire has German castrol syntec on sale right now 30% off... At my local store it is $6.99/L, so that is $35 for 5 liters!

Re: Best oil Lubro Moly & Pentosin in Canada
in doing some reading, i came across something that may be of interest to you... it appears that the north american version of lubro moly's 5w40 synthoil is not actually group IV synthetic... it is a group III hydrocracked just like castrol syntec (with the exception of german castrol)... here is a link with an email from lubro moly confirming this fact:

Products - Synthoil High Tech 5 W-40
Products - Synthoil High Tech 5 W-40
http://www.chemical-check.de/clientv...-2007_CAEN.pdf
whereas the german version contains polyolefin (ie group IV PAO)
http://www.chemical-check.de/clientv...01-2009_EN.pdf
i am not sure if this will work to differentiate which you have, but they have different part numbers (2041 for canada, 1306 for germany) and also on the pictures, the american version says "synthoil premium" whereas the german version says "synthoil high tech"
usa:
Products - Synthoil Premium 5 W-40
germany:
Products - Synthoil High Tech 5 W-40
other than that, the bottles look about identical.
don't you hate it how we get screwed in north america?
in europe i have an easy time finding oils rated for 30,000km. in fact, it seems most are (i usually spend a month or two per year overseas)

if you check out the canadian version of their 0w40 though, you will see it only contains 3-7% mineral oil, so it is a true synthetic oil.

Re: Best oil Lubro Moly & Pentosin in Canada
It seems that Lubro-Moly changed their formula for the US market a year or so ago.
Regardless for everyday commuting it remains good enough and better than Mobil1 which is also NOT fully sunthetic...all crooks
LubroMoly Voll Synthese is the Group IV oil. Voll Synthese means "Full Synthetic" (cant get this stuff anymore)
LubroMoly Synthoil High Tech is the Group III oil. This oil is "synthetic technology"
I suggest LubroMoly Voll Synthese Energy 0W-40 which is A group IV oil
I will see where I got them maybe I could switch...

Re: Best oil Lubro Moly & Pentosin in Canada
Just to let you know, the numbers I gave for mineral oil content came directly from lubro moly's own website. Those are their own numbers in those PDF links.
Let us know though, because maybe you found a supply of the real German stuff (in which case, that really is a great find with a great price!)
it would be so much simpler if the courts would have ruled against castrol and said that they can't call group III synthetic. Then NONE of the big brands would be selling us this mis labeled crap. They only do it, because they can get away with it.
