Default Best oil Lubro Moly & Pentosin in Canada

I have tried so hard looking and searching locally for "German Castrol Syntech" and "Mobil 1 0W40" in Montreal in vain...
Without going into details that most of Mobil 1 line is no longer a 100% synthetic but rather a blend if i recall correctly allowing them to use the term Synthetic only if they have a certain % maybe 45% of synthetic oil
I would trust only Lubro Moly or Pentozin as they seem to be very highly regarded

Finally to realize that my small local friend/mechanic can get me for almost the same price Pentosin & Lubro Moly 5W40 and Mann filter!
So check first and do not be foolish and stoopid like myself

If I could get Lubro Moly here at a good price it would be the one I would use. Where did you get your Lubro Moly?

From my old time friend/small time mechanic...he does work on all cars including germans for "regular maintenance"
Trust me I did work for a few years at the one of the divisions of Napa and I did some extensive search and readings ...Turns out Lubro Moly (sounds like candy) is truly in a league of its own. Mobil 1 0W40 is the european version and is sold everywhere in the US not so in Canada.
I would recommend anyone here to either Lubro Moly or Pentosin 0W40. I used to be a die hard fan of Mobil 1 until I realized that neither Mobil 1 nor Castrol Syntech are 100% synthetic. Mind you Audi dealers use Syntech
For the same price I think it is a no brainer but than again to each his own righ?

Adam you are missing the point here as NOBODY will ever keep their oil filter for such a long time regardless of which brand!

So let me help everyone and post something helpful:

Let me help out everyone here on a couple of points:

To be considered a 'fully-synthetic oil' an oil must have at least 39% synthetic oil. Oils like Castrol, Mobil1, and other 'name-brand' oils use only about 45% synthetic oil (generally, this is not a 100% fact), and the rest is conventional oil. On the other hand, products like Royal Purple, Total Quarts 9000, Amisol, Motul, Pentosin, Lubro Moly…etc all use over 90% synthetic oil, with only 10% or less of conventional oil.

It isn't that Mobil 1 is a bad oil in any way, they just only go up to the minimum oil rating, whereas some of the more expensive oils go above and beyond what is asked of them by the Oil Industry.
By the way I may end up using a Bosch filter and save a few $ but Mann is excellent as well especially since we change oil/filter around ¾ times per year :
Brand: Mann-Filter
Part # W0133-1638280
Can $8.66/ea

Brand: Full
Part # W0133-1638280
Can $4.42/ea

Brand: Bosch
Part # W0133-1636107
Can $6.32/ea

Verdict = MANN is the better choice.

The M1-301 was actually designed to fit a Ford SB V8... it just happens to have the same thread size and gasket placement as the VW filters... M1 knows this and markets the same filter across the board to sell more filters w/o having to produce more models... its all about their profit, not what is best for YOUR car.
The bypass setting on the M1 is set to 10psi. Stock VW/MANN bypass pressure setting is around 30psi. The M1 although it will fit, is not your optimal choice. If you are looking for something over the counter that you can buy at a local autoparts, then the WIX #51191 would be a better choice.
Oil requirements: 3.7 quarts if you are using the small filter. Just use the large filter and put 4.3 quarts

Of course...espcially since the manufacturers like Audi/Benz/BMW say no need to change your oil/filter before gee I don't know 10 or 20k.
Maybe just maybe we are the morons waisting our money but one thing is certain especially with out Turbo engine I would simply not risk it. Besides if you do very short commutes not allowing propoer warming is another reason for more frequent changes.
Hope that info I posted helps others in this community

Any of you guys send in your oil for analysis at blackstone? In my taxi's I run AmsOil, and have sent in samples at 30,000km and they came back good. I use amsoil filters too, but in my A4 I am using castrol syntec, because I won't even put on 30k a year. IIRC Audi recommends 15k intervals with synthetic (I believe they recommend 10k miles in the us). I feel safe doing this on synthetic with a good filter and proper warm up/cool down procedures.
BTW, I usually have no problems finding Mobil 1 0w40 at Canadian tire, but I prefer Castrol 5w40.
I have never seen German castrol in sask.... Anyone else?
Any one use Castrol Edge? Comments?

I think you should be able to find German castrol easily, and it is 100% true synthetic.
It does not actually say "German castrol" on the bottle. Look at canadian tire or partsource for castrol syntech 0w30. Then look on the back of the bottle (it only comes in 1 liter bottles), and it should say made in Germany. It is the only one that will say it. No other grades are made in Germany, but if you find the 0w30 syntech that says made in USA, it is garbage. ONLY get the one that says made in Germany, and it will also say something like only for sale in north america.
