Default B6 A4 reverse gear slipping? or just slow engagement?

I have an 05 A4 Quattro 1.8T automatic with a weird behaviour when I put the car in

reverse. It seems like that right after I put the car in reverse, then press on the gas,

the gear seems like it slips or it's not engaged entirely, making the car jerk while going

backwards. Or this has only happened twice in the last 9 months, but sometimes

I press on the gas (when in reverse) then the car won't move at all... then suddenly a

loud "BANG!!!!" and the car suddenly jerks backwards with no slip.

I was just wondering if these symptoms are normal on the 5speed automatic

or something I should definitely get checked out. If I wait a sec or two until the gear

fully engages to reverse, the problems don't appear.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

sounds like you have slipping going on.. never in any other gear?

Have you ever had the tranny fluid changed and flushed?

reverse is slow to engage. i also had the transmission oil and filter changed it makes a difference reverse is quicker to engage and the whole transmission is smother shifting.

You have 2 transmissions within one. This is how Audi designed it. There are multiple channels where the fluid is pumped at different pressures depending on what you do.
It sounds like your transmission wants to build pressure prior to engaging gears, but with difficulty.
You may have water in your fluid or the fluid is dirty.

I recommend Transmission Fluid Flush.

midrange//no slipping in any other gears, other gears are really smooth.

jamieta430//I've only got 80k km on the clock, is it time to do the fluid flush?

adamstasiak//so basically a flush should do it? how much is it usually to replace? like an hour labour plus fluid? in total how much do you think it'll run?

thanks for the feedback guys

when doing a tranny flush.. you can do it the quick way by not changing the filter.. but i only recommend this if its done frequently.. If you never done a flush, i would change the filter which means removing the tranny pan.

thats the longest part of the labor.. the rest is hooking up to the machine.. pumping the old fluid out while pumping new fluid in.. that takes 45 mins - hour. but its how ever long it is to change the filter.

I'm currently having the same problem, I took it to my local audi specialist who said it'll need a tranny fluid flush, I accept, now the front gears are really better thab they were but nothing new regarding the reverse. I checked DTC's nothing appears. Any advice? (It looks like it engage easier if the front of the car is lower balanced than the back, and engage harder if the back is lower balanced)

Any advices ? Thank you!
