Avg fuel consumption readout problem
I have a 2005 a4 1.8t and recently the readout on the dash for the 'average fuel consumption' is malfunctioning. The readout keeps changing constantly and gives out random values.
The problem started when the engine starts at 800 rpm at a cold start (instead of 1200 rpm like it used to). It used to start at 1200 rpm and drop to 800 rpm after 2 minutes.
Did anyone have a similar problem ?? Do you know how to fix the problem ?

no. The readout just goes crazy all the time. I tried to reset the value to zero (per the owner's manual), but that did not make any difference.

Re: Avg fuel consumption readout problem
If you don't see the ø sign next to the fuel consumption, that's not your avg consumption. that's your instant consumption, toggle with the button on the wiper control. The cold start problem doesn't seem like an issue, and my A4 does the exact same thing in cold weather. It tries to warm itself on 1200 in summer.
