i would love to manual swap it but i dont have the money for a new computer and that would involve some engine work too. i plan on getting an s4 in a few years, that will definitely be manual. you didnt offend me at all sorry i didnt mention those things first.

i was wondering what im getting myself into because ive heard it is a very long process and many people run into problems with it. so i was looking from anyone whos done it for some details. thank you though! ill def let you know how it goes. idk when it will be getting done though

Juliaaaa, what is wrong with your tranny now? Maybe someone here can help diagnose your problem and see if you really need a new tranny.

it had been slipping for a while. then reverse stopped working. brought it into the shop and drained the fluid. it came out almost black with pieces of metal in it.. clutches shot.

Ooh! Well, anyways, here's a DIY link that shows you how to replace the clutch. Mind you, it also shows how to disassemble the transmission from the car. So maybe that'll help you out or give you and the BF atleast an idea.

Nothing really to look out for on a tranny change on VAG vehicles - it should be straightforward for anyone mechanically experienced. Just be sure to have the appropriate Triple Square bits for the axles (M8 or M10 depending upon axles). You should also have a full assortment of Torx and Internal Hex Drive when working on these cars. Other than that, it's a piece of cake.
