A4 vs. Jetta

Re: A4 vs. Jetta
This is an interesting discussion but other than chassis designations and car names there is very little between these two cars that are really similar. You can park them side by side and they don't really look like each other and other than the motors very little can be found in either car that is shared.
The entire body is different, the engine layout is different, the car drives differently, the fabrics and leathers used are different, and all of the controls are different. If you have ever worked on, owned, or sat in the Jetta is just feels cheaper than the Audi. The look and feel of the Audi is much better and the way they blend the interior and trim is beyond that of VW. Look at the way the interior wraps around itself in the Audi and the placement of the controls and even the shape of the interior lights and it is much more refined. Even the smallest things are different, if you have used the wipers in an Audi and a VW you would know exactly what I am saying.
Given the two I would take the Audi in a second just for the AWD which is far more advanced than the system used on the European Jetta which was never sold here. If you were going to compare the Audi to a VW I would say the Passat would be a better choice although the B5 Passat was just a B5 Audi with a different skin and interior. What most people notice most about mine is how refined and quiet it is compared to other cars and this is with a 10 year old car with coil-overs and suspension mods.
Putting the power down to the road is where I see the biggest different, even with a GT28RS turbo and a snow covered road with full boost this thing just pulls unless you want it to do otherwise. I could have bought two A4 Jetta's for the price I paid for my Audi A4 not including the mods on it and I still feel I got a better deal on the Audi.

Re: A4 vs. Jetta
I believe A4 is more related to the Passat ; the 1st A4 shared its platform with the Passat. Since then, the Passat is one generation late over the A4 platform (currently, A4 is using the B8 while the 2010 Passat still uses the B7 ; and the Passat used the B6 from 2005 to 2010):

A4, S4, RS4, A5, S5, RS5 and Passat. Apparently the 2010 A8 and 2009+ Q5 are also based on the B8 platform.

with B6 and B7 audi A4's. Only the B5 audi's shared platforms with the B5 and B5.5 passats, they then branched off in different directions, and the "B" named platforms are actually not related to each other. Although there are B6 passats AND B6 A4's, the B6 passat is on a PQ46 platform, and the B6 A4 is on the PL46 platform.

Re: A4 vs. Jetta
it depends on which vw and which audi. as i mentioned, the B5 and B5.5 passat and B5 A4 share many common suspension, braking, and powertrain parts. the quality, fit and finish of the interior materials is certainly different, but mechanically, the two are very similar.
