I do know that the Golf does come from Mexico except for the GTI.
I just saw the new Jetta at the dealership and it was still made in Mexico. The new GTI is made in Germany just to set the story straight. Unsure where the new Golf will be made though.

Surprised no one has mentioned the warranty... Check your local dealer for details, but with VW, you pay for every service. Audi's services are free for 4 years - if I went and bought a new A4 now, I wouldn't have a single repairbill for 4 years, oil changes included.

Driving the 2 cars is night and day. When I drove my friends 1998 Jetta, comparing it to my '99 A4 was impossible. Only now, the 2006 Jetta feels remotely similar to my car.

Fit and finish is also much much different.

Why do people rant about where cars are assembled? The mk5 Jettas are made in Mexico, and they feel beautiful. Quality is a result of the engineering, creation, and assembly of parts. Engineering is german, creation and assembly is mostly automated now. Saying a car is worse off because it was assembled in Mexico is silly - it's a crapshoot to the quality of the car, not based on country.

Isn't the A4 the same platform as the Passat?

The previous generation of Passat, yes: that was the B5 platform. The current generation of Passat has a transverse layout.

another thing to remember that VW & Audi parts are made through the same manufactures,
the only thing that different is the finish product,

I have an 01 A4 and an 03 TT. While my car was in the shop for a week, they gave me an 06 Passat. It was remarkable how close to the A4 it was. After a week, they wanted their Passat back. They gave me an 06 Jetta TDI. HUGE difference. The Jetta was crap in comparison.

When I was car shopping last year, I drove the Jetta, I thought "hey, it's basically the same car and it's cheaper"....wrong! Aside from common parts, the Jetta drives like a Jetta, and an Audi drives like an Audi. There's no comparison. Try it, you'll see.

LoL! I also test drove a 2004 BMW 330i... oh man, it drove like a Sunfire! And no ***** for the money either.

I voted that for the price tag, the A4 handles better, feels better, and has a ton more ***** than it's competitors, and gives you a better resale value.
