A4 vs. Jetta
How many parts from the Jetta are carried over to the A4?
For example, what constitutes the nearly $10,000 in price (between the Jetta 1.8T and the A4 1.8T) besides the badging and some upgraded interior materials?

Audi is using VW parts for their cars, both brands are from the VAG mother company. There will be no quality difference between VW and Audi.
Buying a car is a not a rational dissision, but a emotional one, that is why people buy a Audi instead of a VW. If you don't care, you buy american crap, lot cheaper and it has also 4 wheels........
Driving an AUDI is a statement

Jetta vs A4 are two different platforms. The Jetta is based on the chassis used by the A3. Also I can't remember if the Jettas that are sold in Canada are from Mexico or not. The Audi I know for sure is from Germany. Interior quality is night and day. You're comparing apples to oranges here.

Thanks for the info and welcome to the board Mike!

One correction, I think the Jetta still comes from Germany, though I could be wrong though it can be easily checked by looking at the sticker by the door.
I do know that the Golf does come from Mexico except for the GTI.

There are quite a lot of differences. Just drive a VW Passat 2.0T and an A4 2.0T for one day and you'll notice. Even without driving, it should not be hard to tell. One thing for sure, you can't say Audi's are nicer VWs; while you can say that for Japanese 'premium' makes like Acura is basically a nicer Honda, and same goes for Infiniti/Nissan or Lexus/Toyota. Audi/VW does this whole branding thing is a much different approach with many differences worth the price premium.

YES BIG DIFFERENCE
Though i dotn like the fact that alot of little features are left out of audi like ac glove box and arm rest storage areas in case you want to keep lunches cool and stuff but for the most part vw aint no audi. Thats for sure.

One of the biggest differences between Jetta and A4 is the chassis as somebody pointed out: A4's have engines in a longitudinal position, unlike the the transverse mounting on Jettas. Suspension geometry is also vasty different between the platforms.
