What are your thoughts on switching from an A4 to an S4? I have recently come up with the idea and am investigating it a bit more, to see if I can make the switch from my 2004 A4 Quattro to a probably 2004 -2006 S4. Originally I was going to wait 3 more years and get the RS4 but it is seeming that the time is draging along. So as far as reliability goes for the S4 vs the A4, Service charges on averages, how much more does that 4.2L engine take in gas. What are some common issues etc.

If you buy a 2.0T A4, chip it, intake, exhaust, test pipe you will be slightly slower than an S4 and use half the gas.

And honestly, you will at least end up with your own car, know how it was maintained , cheaper insurance and yes, not brutal mileage like the s4.

If were looking at mileage alone, stock vs stock on an 02 (combined mileage) is 18 on the s4 vs 21 on the a4.

a4- $3.86

you will always pay premium for the S line... in terms of maintenance, gas, upkeep and parts..

Yeah I just heard o another forum that it takes like 10 hours to get to the alternator LOL ridiculasssss.... Yeah my city gets a bit pricy i guess cuz the economy is good a simple oil change runs me $180

yeah... it doesn't really matter what location you go to its around there with an inspection...

Just made the move from '04 A4 1.8 to 06' S4. Sswwweeeeetttt! Stuff the extra gas cost. Everything about the car is better. The Recaro seats..the 12 speaker stereo, the big wheels, the fine finishing touches. And believe me...the first time you put your girl in the passenger seat, find a quiet road and step on it, you'll be smilling big when she yells out "WTF!".

If you're like me, you work really hard for your money and deserve to have a little fun. It's still a sensible car, all things considered.

Just a really fast sensible car.

That is a good deal of difference there, how did you come up with this? Do you own either of both mentioned?
