Hi,

Does anyone know if it is a common problem for the trunk of a 2004 3.0 A4 Avant not to stay open in colder temperatures ? There is some fluid on the trunk struts.

Perhaps a coincidence, but on the first day of cold weather here in Calgary the trunk won't stay open in its upright position. Crashed in to my wifes head when coming back from the shops !!

Does the fluid need replaced, or the struts ? Know if this is expensive ?

You need new struts. If there is fluid on the strut the seals have gone. I don't know about price but i Wouldn't think they're that expensive.

Maybe you are missing this part. I know it's aftermarket, but I've seen it on a lot of cars and it seems pretty universal in keeping the hatch or trunk open.
