Default 2004 audi a4 or 2004 acura tl

So i am looking into these two cars and had done some research on both of them. I came into a conclusion that audi a4 are not reliable from reading reviews on edmunds.com. A4 owners giving feedback about eletrical problems, tranny problems, etc. Overall I like the a4, the body is sharp, the interior is slick but Im just worried that the car would spend more time in the shop then me driving it.

Looking at audi a4 b6 around 100,000km is it safe to purchase a car that has that many km on it?

One more feedback if you could audi a4 or acura tl?

I had a 1997 A4 2.8L engine with 396 000km's if you keep up the maintenance up to date it is very easy to have the car exceed that the guy I sold the car to paid me $7000 for it. Now if I were to own a Jap car then I would maybe get if I am lucky $1000 for it. I ran into the guy a couple months ago again car is running great with 457000km's on it so you can read all the reviews you want but do the research from previous owners like this website. Each problem is unique and it depends on how you treat your car. I drove the 1997 like I stole it but treated it good maintenance wise and look how far it has gone.....

Remember when you were a little kid and drove a tri-cycle with FWD and had a ton of fun, but once you got your real bike when you grew up and it was RWD you got anywhere....Now combine those two together and youd be driving an Audi

All and all I think jap cars are super reliable...but for quality and drivability the a4 is definetly the car to get, make sure it is quattro. I just bought my 2004 a4 at 80,000km. It now almost has 100,000 and runs like brand new. Make sure you take it to the dealership and pay 100 bucks to have a full inspection done, and make sure all previous maintenance was done. Also, timing belts need to be replaced around 110,000. I plant to do mine at 100,000. This is a major job and costs areound 1000 bucks, so knock that off the price if it has not yet been done. Good luck

^ great advise.

I'll add my 2 cents ... If you enjoy driving, the front wheel drive TL will get tiresome in short order. Make sure you've got 2 good sets of tires (summer and winter specific) and you'll be much happier with the day to day driving of the Audi year 'round ...

ditto.

Quattro, baby, Quattro!! I still dont know why acura wouldnt have made the new TL's with rwd or awd...it seems like a waste of a very tight, powerful car.

reliability wise, time and again, every Audi owner will most likely tell you if you take care of them, they will take care of you. I was scared about purchasing Audi at first by looking at reliability reviews, but no car is going to be bulletproof, you will always have to perform regular maintenace and repairs. From my understanding, Acura doesnt put your wallet at ease for parts and service either...

I just bought an 02 audi a4 3.0 v6 quattro myself. I could not see any other car worth driving for the money. I had 2 cats replaced an oil leak fixed and the timing belt service done recently after I bought it. The car (knock on wood) is running awesome. I too thought about buying an acura. Once I started researching reviews and specs I went with the audi. Looking all over the internet, the reviews on the audi were mostly good so I felt and feel pretty secure. The tightness and appeal of any audi is far better than quickly built and turned out rice patties. make sure to check the seats for wear, check the fluids, and check the suspension by slowly and lightly pushing down on the four middle corners of the car. If quattro, test drive it and go to a small parking lot and do lower to maybe higher speed circles and listen for popping. Could mean the bearings are bad or that the quattro system is a little worn. Good luck.

I have a 03 TLS and 01 S4. Two different cars. The TL is bigger, and more reliable. It's more roomy and I haven't had to spend any $ on it except mods and regular maintenance. The Audi would be more sporty, at least the S4 is. It's smaller, and probably cost more to maintain. I am in the opposite situation as you, having to decide which one to sell as I don't need 3 cars.

AWD is fun, but FWD isn't bad. Definitely with AWD you want and can drive it more aggressively and in snowy areas it's a big plus.

i just bought a 2004 avant with the 3.0l engine about 3 months ago, we owned a honda accord for many years and it was pretty much bullet proof, then 2 years ago we bought a A6 avant and loved it so much i bought the A4.

Japanese car are nice and smooth, however they are noisey on the highway and just don't ride quite as nice as the Big 3 German cars (Audi, BMW, MB).

And like the guys mention you can't beat the quattro.

This is an Audi forum. I would be very surprised if anyone here suggested you go for the Acura. Have you tried the same question on the Acura forum (if one exists, that is).

Consumer Reports rate Acura as more reliable than Audi. I know that Honda's (and Toyota's) are very reliable.

If you will be carrying people in the back seats then the Acura would be better choice. If you like modding then the Audi would be more interesting.
