2002 A4 1.8T - Starts up and after 2 seconds dies
Hey guys, my car was running fine (besides the left dipped headlight) the other day but I parked for a few days and when I went to my car today it had problems (it was -8 celcius out). The problem was that it would start up for about a second or two then shut off no matter how much fuel I was giving it. I could smell gas and when I pressed the gas pedal it would rev high for a few seconds then shut down and display the "Press clutch to start engine" message, even though the clutch was in the whole time. So I'm assuming its not the fuel pump because I can smell gas and it revs high if I press it. Also a weird thing is that during the second or so while it is reving up the tachometer doesn't respond. which leads me to believe it might be electrical?
Has anyone had this problem?
Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.

Thats what happens when the imobiliser is not activating. Just a guess but it doesnt look like your car is recognizing the chip in the key to remove imobilizer. Do you have another key?

It seems like the immobilizer like the ^ said. If you have an extra key, try that, if not, it has to be reprogrammed by a mechanic who specialize in Audi's.

^ not a 100% sure now you've mentioned the key sign. but it may be related to the immobilizor's system. First thing is to get it scanned for sure. It will likely give you the right answer.
