1.8T Camshaft Adjuster Gasket...
75K and I have my first real problem - some small oil leaks coming from the valve cover (no real problem), and a leak eminating from the camshaft adjuster. Took a quick look at my ebahn manual and groaned; its fairly involved, but most troublesome is the special tools required for the job. Anyone out there done this at home and have some work-arounds or suggestions of where to go for the specialty tools? Any advice would be appreciated. I took a look at Audiworld, and while there are lots of mentions about this problem, there isn't anything in the tech section yet.

I see that your in YYZ, I'm a vancouver boy at present so it won't work out too well! If and when I get some more info I'll post it to keep you in the loop. I'd also be happy to lend you the specialty tools if I can get ahold of them.

Re: 1.8T Camshaft Adjuster Gasket...
I just looked at a 2002 A4 Avant 1.8t today that had the same problem. Has anyone gotten any quotes for having this done yet?
What is involved in fixing this? I'd like to find out quick before I make an offer on this car.
Thanks

Re: 1.8T Camshaft Adjuster Gasket...
The quote that I received from the dealer was - get ready for this - $626.29. The job is all labour (I paid about $30.00 for the gaskets), and involves removing the valve cover (easy) and then moving the camshafts to get at the adjuster gasket. There are a few how to's floating around out there - I haven't done mine yet as I'm waiting for special tool to arrive which is a must do for this job ($25.00 from the dealer).
