Default $35K Right Price for 2007 A4 Cab?

Hi there,

I am a newbie almost-Audi-owner. Just made an offer on a 2007 A4 Cabriolet 2.0T AWD with ~40,000km mileage + a set of extra mags + factory warranty balance. Carproof & Carfax reports gave all OKs – no repairs, damages or accidents reported. Car had one owner in Ontario & looks like it was well maintained. Test drive was great – solid feel to it. Offered cash at $35,000 + 13% tax at the dealer. Had to negotiate to get this price, but am wondering if price is too high. Do you guys have any thoughts? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds fair to me. For a comparison, take a look at whats available south of the 49th on Cars.com. I'd suggest you add 25% to convert the US dollar to landed costs in CDN dollars. Also, US cars dont always have as strong a resale value as a CDN cars up here so this should be taken into account when deciding whether or not to purchase south of the border - for the record, I just sold my 2007 US S4 and did VERY well after owning it for almost 2 years.

Good luck !

Thanks very much for your feedback.

I am taking the car for an independent pre-purchase inspection next week - including an overall check & engine compression test. Is there anything else I need to ask the mechanic for a pre-owned Audi A4? I am a newbie to car mechanics in general, so any advice is indeed greatly appreciated!

BTW; I chose Advanced Autowerks for this pre-purchase inspection from the comments/advice I read on this forum. Their price seems reasonable and so far they seem to be very service oriented.

Though I am paying for this inspection and it is independent of the seller/dealer, the salesperson at the dealer himself has "generously" volunteered to take the car over to the inspector as "part of their service". I am sure Advanced will do an independent check as they have promised, but it struck me a bit strange that the dealer/sales guy would spend his time on this. Is this normal or is there a trick up the sleeve here I am missing?

Not sure who you're getting to inspect it (aside from the dealer, Advanced Autowerks or Tapp Auto would be great choices) but any reputable mechanic knowing VAG cars will know what to look for.

Dont forget to post pics once you do the deal ...

I finally bought it!! Many thanks for your advice & support.

I got the inspection done by Advanced Autowerks - a really professional & wonderfully helpful shop. I also took the car for its 40K service (still under warranty & Audi care) at the dealer recently and got a thumbs up from them. After hearing others' experiences of dealerships, I found this to be a pleasant surprise. At least the people I met came across as good hard working folk trying to help out as much as possible. So far so good....

Am really happy with my new ride - my very first ever car too! Only problem now is to find a way to gently discourage my racing-mad hubby from "testing" the car.....
