It is a part of my problem as I was preoccupied with the effects of Nitro on the A6.

Hey hey, my my,

I didn't think the transmission would allow you into reverse without putting your foot on the brake first. You wouldn't by chance be ingesting that crazy "Nitromethane" concoction you've been raving about now would you?? jk lol

Yeah, I dont think it will...

Many modern automatic transmissions have a safety mechanism in place, which does to some extent prevent (but does not completely avoid) inadvertently putting the car in reverse when the vehicle is moving forwards. This mechanism usually consists of a solenoid-controlled physical barrier on either side of the Reverse position, which is electronically engaged by a switch on the brake pedal. Therefore, the brake pedal needs to be depressed in order to allow the selection of reverse. Some electronic transmissions prevent or delay engagement of reverse gear altogether while the car is moving.

Silent Sam

I sniff the exhaust. There is sweet smell to it.

My wife took it to work today as per Mikeh.

I just wanted to shift down as in manual from fourth to third and I pushed the lever forward as I would do with manual. The car didn't do anything so I added gas, it still did not do anything, so I looked at the stick and I froze because it was on the reverse.

Definition of Troll....
a "troll" is not a grumpy monster that lives beneath a bridge accosting passers by, but rather a provocative posting to a news group intended to produce a large volume of frivolous responses. The content of a "troll" posting generally falls into several areas. It may consist of an apparently foolish contradiction of common knowledge, a deliberately offensive insult to the readers of the news group or a broad request for trivial follow-up postings.

Why do you guy's respond to this nonsense?

Are you insinuating that Adam is a troll just because he wanted to know something about a possible problem with his wife's car? :tsk: People respond to threads because this is a forum!

Sorry.

This really happened and it is my second time. The first time was on the Volvo 960 at 120km/hr. The reverse engaged and I was lucky that it was a rear wheel drive. I shifted back to D but it was too late. The transmission withstood the impact but the engine did not as it reved to 12,000 RPM.

This time the tranny did not engage and the engine did not engage so I was thinking maybe it is all ruined.

I drive automatic 3 times a year or so when my wife tells me to fuel it up.

I already use the reverse to brake on my old Oldsmobile Aurora. Brake hose was leaking and I needed to go back home then garage. No hand brake working. When I did that multiple time, I was going 20Km/h and less. It never broke anything. It was an automatic.
If you cannot see a difference, drive and have fun.
