if you are chipping your car with a tipronic transmission, you have to get the TCU done as well, or your tranny goes gear hunting.

You dont have to...Unless you are exceeding 300HP'ish then it is highly recommended! I know people that have gone Stage 3 with a tip and just re programed their tranny shift modes through Vag-Com! Nothing special still a manufacturer shift point!

well, you are right and wrong.
1. the HP has nothing to do with it, it's the torgue.
2. a stage 1 upgrade should exceed 300HP on a 2.7T engine anyways.
3. the vag-com trick works here and there, that's why i'm for the tranny chip. it always works 100%

Another option with ECU increased boost and stock Tip TCU is to learn how to drive it to avoid gear hunting. It's limited to a part throttle issue and managing part throttle appropriately can be effective. If your car has them, using the steering wheel Tip paddle shifters eliminates gear hunting too.

I know several people driving ECU chipped 2.7T's and stock Tip TCU for years... are they doing something wrong?

i just wanted to chime in here, as an a4 with tip driver. I've been hesitant on chipping since they do not make a tip chip for my car. The only one available is the GIAC transmission chip and it only supports the 2002 a4.

I'm happy to hear you can reprogram the shift points through the VAGCOM. could anyone post any more specific on this? This is the first I've heard of it.

any chance to get some numbers off of them? what chip are they running? how much torque they're pushing?
if you have vag-com, log group 120 in 3 or 4 gear 1500rpm - 6500rpm.
would be very interesting!

Chip upgrade HP and TQ numbers are publicly available from APR, GIAC, users across the net, etc.

What specifically are you interested in seeing?
