Default Tiptronic problem...help needed

I have an 03 A4 with Tiptronic. The dash shows PRNDS highlighted all the time now and when I move it to manual shift it will not allow me to manually shift gears. The plastic guide in the shifter slot has cracked and become loose. Is there a sensor that has malfunctioned and won't recognize the manual mode. Any others with this experience?

Come out to the meet next week and we can scan it and see, usually the magnets in there fail, and I heard it happening to a few cars.

OK I took to trans cover off, reconnected the connectikon and had a look, but nothing looks out of the ordinary. When I start it up th PRNDS displays normally and then each gear RN displays properly until I put in in D then all the PRNDS display is highlighted.

Where are the magnets located?

When is the meet?

I had this problem, PRNDS flashing, Had it scanned and it was Transmittion Range Sensor error, Call Audi, TCM needed to be replaced and on my model its located at the Back of the transmitssion, which means that the transmission needs to be droped to replace this part. It cost me €880 for the TCM, another €150 for oil and €450 for Labour... But it drives better than it ever did, Also had it chipped for €400 at the same time, My A4 2004 is now 160 bhp from 130, but the torque is the biggest gain up by 120... wow.

Does anybody know if this PRNDS flashing (I have this issue also) is related to the ECU upgrade ? [In my case APR stage I] I am asking because I just had the ECU chipped about a month ago. Thanks for the input.

No! No no... I just fixed one last week same issue! usually the magnet falls out and you need to fix it or the printed circuit board fails. No need to go to the dealer and no it should not have anything to do with the chipping. Mpowered if you want I can meet up with you and fix it

Thanks very much, 1move... but it's impossible to meet: I understand you are in Calgary... and I am in Ottawa. Could you please be more specific, is it something that I can do myself ?
