shifting problem
Problem is that when I shift, it's not a smooth shift, almost like the linkage is touching something or rubbing on something this happens on all 5 gears, mostly on 1,2,3.
Now, if I jitter or move the stick around or while being stationary shift 1,2,3,4,5..
5,4,3,2,1 just basically go through all gears, or just shake it side to side it becomes
better and I can shift smoothly with no resistance or feel of rubbing anything. Also when I lift the car up on a hoist or jack to do what ever, it shifts smooth for a while then it goes back to the same thing. The stick is not firm there is play around it.
could it be:
- linkage problem
-linkage bushings work out = play in shifter = hard shifting?
sometimes also when I push the shifter down a little or twist it a little it shifts smooth.
I'm thinking shifter linkage is bent, and linkage bushings work out since there is play int he shifter.
Your thoughts? and how much $$ aprox to fix this?
thanks.

Re: shifting problem
Look at all bushings, linkages & and sliders in the shift mechanism. Clean any grunge from the entire set up and lubricate the hell out of all moving parts with a decent quality white grease or all weather lubricant. i sued to have a Wurth product....an adfhesive lubricant that was excellent for these types of things but have a hard time finding wurth products readily. As far as a repair estimate???? DIY....it's not rocket science. Older VW were nutorious for this type of linkage seize up issue. Good luck and let me know how you make out.
