I am using Shell Gas for A4 and A6 now.

What do I do in terms of additives as minus 22 degrees is coming our way?

When you were using non-shell gas did you add anything? Its not neccessary to add anything to your fuel unless you are driving in the North/South poles.

When I was using non-Shell gas I would always add some kind of alcohol to it just to make sure. I know that Shell does not add ethanol at all, so this is why I am asking. We went from plus 15 to minus 20 in 3 days so imagine the water vapour concentration in my tank. I kept it full all the time, but I do not believe you have any idea what this kind of temperature change is in Ontario.

I would have to do some research on the properties of gas and ethanol to give you an answer as to how a 5 or 10% ethanol mix would be effected by temperature. In the mean time you most certainly are taking more proactive measures than most by making sure your tank is full which will prevent moisture. We have had some drastic temperature fluctuation and very low temps here in Ontario as well and I have not heard of anyone taking an addative measure to compensate. Adding something other than gas to your tank should be done with caution. The caution would be in terms of what are you adding? How much are your adding? Will the addative effect anything other than the gas? Will adding something to your fuel have a negative effect on other components? You are using Shell to avoid ethanol. Most addatives are ethanol based because ethanol has a freezing point of -173 F and gas freezes at -40 F. So by adding an ethanol based addative you are defeating the purpose of using Shell.
