Radio Lock
Greetings,
Quite a while ago I reset my computer because of maintenance after a check engine light appeared. I made the check engine light go away by unplugging the battery for a few minutes, then plugging it back in.
This also put the radio in safe mode and I used the wrong code four times (given to me a few years back by the Audi dealership). I went to the dealership to get the right code, tried it again and my radio was locked.
Is there anyway I can reset it again (tried unplugging the battery, to no avail). If not does anyone know how much it would cost to get the radio out of safe mode at the dealership?
I miss blasting music while cruising,
Nick

Re: Radio Lock
If you are sure you have the right code, but the radio is just locked, not allowing you to enter anything, then you just need to have the car ON for 45min-1hr. You will need to have the radio ON for this long as well, without any disturbance. So turn it ON and dont fiddle with it, because everytime you do, it will restart the time from the last time you touched a button.
It will reset and you can try to enter your code again.
If you dont have the code at all, just go to OEM / Performance Parts for Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Mini, Porsche & Volkswagen - ECS Tuning and buy a new radio for $30
I've heard the dealership will ask for more than that.

Re: Radio Lock
I have the code, so all I have to do is go for a 45 minute to an hour drive with the radio on uninterrupted? I'm guessing that means driving straight without turning the vehicle off?
I will have to do that, not that I'm complaining.
The dealership asked for $24.99 if I didn't have the code, luckily my car was serviced regularly by the previous owner and all the information was at hand with no cost.
Thanks for the help,
Nick

Re: Radio Lock
Alright, so over the past weeks I have tried many things to get the radio running again.
1st I did what vgorous recommended. I drove for an hour straight, without turning my car off or fiddling with the radio. That did not work. When I got home, it was still in safe mode and I couldn't change anything.
2nd I went to the Audi dealership and asked them what they would do. First they would try to leave the ignition on for an hour AND the radio, uninterrupted. There is no difference between driving or leaving the ignition on, so I skipped this part.
3rd Audi would leave the ignition on, remove the radio's fuse and leave the ignition on for an hour. I did this last night, twice. Still no luck.
I will look into getting a new radio. $30 dollars is quite a difference in comparison to what the dealership said: $300 upwards.
Although i'm not too trusty about buying stuff over the internet, I technically can't go wrong with 30 bucks.
Thanks,
-Nick

Re: Radio Lock
When you bought the car did you get a copy of the Operations manual that came with the Symphony stereo that looks like this?
If so inside the front cover you should have the code like this.
In the manual the instructions are as follows. Before you head off and buy one from ECS Tuning, try this out to a T as it sounds like if it's in safe mode, you can enter the code to get it out if it. I have a feeling they gave you the wrong code if it keeps locking up. Good luck.

Re: Radio Lock
Thanks for your help Cyber, but it turns out that it works now all of a sudden.
Drove home today blasting music. I've been missing this sound for weeks now. Feels good to hear it again.
Thanks to all who helped,
Nick
