I have a 2000 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro. Car`s been running great until 2 days ago. Drove to work in the morning, no problem, started it after work, heard a wierd like ticking going on in the front, quite loud, so i shut it off - hasn`t started since. I`m getting spark, getting fuel, cranks turning over no problem, BUT, my cams aren`t rotating when it`s turning over. My OBD II reader told me codes P1338, and P1391, both to do with shorts on the camshaft position sensor, to the B+ and Ground.

Any ideas on this situation? It was like night and day, running great, to not running, period.

Any help/input greatly appreciated.

*also: prior to this happening i had been experiencing a moderate vibration at 1700-1800rpm, worst was when i was coming down to idle, maybe this would be caused by bad timing and have to do with my now serious issue?

sounds like the cam chain jumped a tooth or two. low oil pressure could cause the cam chain tensioner to back off or 'fail' ... this might be the ticking sound you hear and could be the cause of the cam timing to be out. i doubt its a sensor. get the timing checked.
