Lpg conversions
Hi All
I know this is taboo but has any one heard of an audi a4 being converted to LPG. I have a 2000 2.4 quattro and was thinking of converting. But I have been told it'll devalue the car. I have no intention of selling it so anyone have any tips/.
BTW I live in Australia if anyone can recommend a classy converter, that'd help.
Cheers

Re: Lpg conversions
Thanks guys
I've put in a few more enquiries and found that the A4 B5 model is way too small in the engine bay to do a conversion. And yes Sonic LPG is what you think. Its widely used here in Australia and NZ and its around just under half the price of petrol and if done right can give more power as LPG has a higher octane rating. Thanks for your posts

Re: Lpg conversions
I have done the conversion on a number of my personal vehicles. I haven't done it on the A4 as of yet as I have been trying to figure out where to mount all the pieces under the hood. I do have a '92 accord, and a '00 GMC Sierra 6.0L running on LPG and gasoline. The guy I work with (who also got me into LPG) ran his '02 Dodge Ram and his '00 Passat 1.8T on LPG. Dodge is now getting a isuzu diesel conversion done to it.
As far as kits go, a really good kit to go with is called the Prins LPG kit. I have it on my GMC. It is a fully compatible kit that gets spliced into the ECU of the vehicle and has its own ECU for the propane system to make it run seamlessly. No worrys of check engine lights or running issues. I have all the software for tuning the LPG ecu and it is very straight forward. Was planning to do the install on my A4 and '99 C230 Kompressor, but with the prices of LPG being very close to gas at the moment, it hasn't been worth while. Fuel consumption does go up a touch compared to gasoline. A Prins kit will run you about $1400-1800 depending on how many cylinder kit you are needing. This is a very prominent kit in europe and many Audis have this system on them.
Propane is just as safe as gasoline. There is no issue with that. Not to mention it produces 80% less greenhouse emissions.

Re: Lpg conversions
Hello I am an avid reader on these forums but not a poster. This one I just had to reply as I have just had this conversion done on my Audi A4 and personally find it run just as good as gas if not better. I have what they call a 100 Lt tank in my trunk but can only fill to 80% max to leave room for expansion when empty it will auto switch back to reg gas ( can't even tell ) so on average when I fill up I will get on average 70Ltr in the tank an get about 500 km before next fill up compared to about 55Ltr of reg gas @ 500 km. so less KM per litre but price is so much better at 0.43 cents a litre compared to premium at $1.10 + it may take a few years for it to pay it self off but I believe it's worth it.
