Re: Lets talk about Shifiting/Clutching/RPM's
Don't rev too high with a stock clutch & drop it off the line from 6500RPM. You will go through your clutches like they're skittles at fat camp.
I'd recommend rev to about 3, let y cluthc out half-way so you get the roll, feel it for a second, then drop it the rest of the way & pound the gas.
Quattro is just too much friction.. atleast a civic or 'neon' will just spin their tires, you're much heavier with much more traction & will just strain your clutch.
With that said.. do what you want, but when you get a new clutch, get a performance one... I had to go through 2 stocks before I was wise enough to step it upa couple levels.

How far do you suggest pushing the rpms' for each gear ?

Re: Lets talk about Shifiting/Clutching/RPM's
you're not really going to cause any damage...
If I feel like being a "hot-shot" I'll buzz around town in 2nd gear.. RPMs are kept nice and high & the boost is just waiting to kick in. Then you just slam yo foot down and your car GOES & the turbo sounds like 1000 screaming babies... and you can bet you'll beat any neon at that rolling start.
Other then that I usually cruise around ~3RPM. Quite, comfortable, economical.
Its you car.... give it time and you will beocme one with it. TRUST me. You will come back and look at this post in 6 months and be like "I could have answered all these on my own"

With respect to starting from a dig, you definitely don't want to strain your clutch (possibly the weakest part of the 1.8 car). Going from gear to gear isn't as hard on the clutch providing its not engaged long enough to heat up beyond its capacity. In other words don't ride the clutch with load unless you want premature wear. I have a buddy who is on his original clutch with 263,000 kms and has a K04. I swapped my OEM clutch out when I went to a BT and was able rev to 5,000k and then drop it from a dig. Aside from being capable of holding add'l torque, my aftermarket clutch (Southbend OFE) had an engagement point much closer to the floor !

ok... dropping the clutch at 5000 is a good way to launch.. but i think he's asking for a way to preserve his parts, instead of putting undue stress on them...

Racing was one of the scenario's but what I'm trying to learn is, What is the most efficient way to move the car from standstill to 100km
In other words.
The fastest and smoothest way to shift gears.
remember the car has 100% stock parts
