Default HELP!!!!wheels and tires?

Im in the market for some rims and tires, Ive decided on the AZA 18 x 8.5 35mmet 5x112 rims and Im planning to put 235/40/18 tires on them, any one have this set up? I have a b5 bone stock. Will there be rubbing? Suggestions on lowering? lower first then rims and tires or visa versa? Thanks for all the help I can get on this issue.

I've got 18 x 8.5 wheels with 35mm offset on my 2000 A4 with stock Sport suspension. My tires are 235/40/18. (The same setup as the 2004 Audi A4 UltraSport) There is no rubbing ....but I have the sport swaybar and suspension that came from the factory for that year.
No, I have not lowered my car and I'm not going to b/c i like driving in the winter snow. The stock Sport setup the car came with is just perfect.

Not sure if you meant the wheel dimensions are the same as the 2004 USP or just the tire size ?? Truth is that you're right about tire size but the 2004 USP wheels (AKA B5 RS4 wheels) are 18 X 8 and have an offset of 43.

I can tell you that there are several lowered B5 S4's that have had problems with rubbing using 235's and have therefore opted for 225's. Also, on my B6 A4 USP Avant, I replaced my 235's to a different make and the replacement tires rubbed (Toyo's are not as wide as Goodyears).

Hope this is helpful.

Good luck !

i'm guessing the replacement tires had a higher sidewall height (the 2nd number in the tire size) than the stockers, which caused the rubbing - if you had gone with a direct replacement (exact same size), there wouldn't have been any rubbing issues (unless your stockers were worn down enough to clear the wells).

i'd be a little wary of running 235's on a 8.5" rim - you're looking at ~0.4" of overage on either side (235mm=9.25")... not a huge deal, people do it all the time, but it's not for me. either way, by switching to a lower offset (like +30-ish), the 235's would fit without rubbing.

Sorry, but you guessed wrong. I went from a 235/40 Toyo T1R to a 235/40 Goodyear F1's. The reason for this is that I was already at 50% tread when 1 tire was damaged so I purchased 4 new tires and sold the 3 good Toyos. My Toyos never rubbed from day one.

Let me reiterate: Even though tire manufacturers state a particular sizes, they are not necessarily that exact dimension. The Toyos are known to run rarrower than others and the GY's were definitely wider causing some rubbing on major dips on the highway. In my case, the car was lowered (approx 25" fender to ground height) and had spacers (8 mm front and 15mm rears). Here's a couple of pics with the Toyos:

i'm not saying you're lying or anything, i'm just trying to wrap my head around it - did the GY's have a deeper tread depth at 100% than the Toyos? maybe the GY's stood out from the rim more than the Toyos?

i'm at a loss as to how different manufacturers can have different sizes than what they state - lord knows a rim manufacturer couldn't get away with it if their advertized 18" rims were really 17.9" or 18.2"...

based on the pics, it looks like the toyos were just about the limit of fitment - you didn't have any rubbing issues with the toyos?

p.s. - that's one clean Avant!

No worries ! Pretty sure the tires had the same tread depth and over all circumference. No rubbing with the Toyos. The inside measurements of all tires are pretty consistant or else they wouldn't fit wheels properly. That said, many tire manufacturers do not make their tires exactly the size they say they are. Aside from my experience with the Toyo's and GY's, I know the Vred Sessantas are also known to run a bit wider and I'm pretty sure I've read about one or two tires having a slightly taller profile.

Thanks for the compliment ... I loved that car and had fun modding the hell out of it but haven't looked back since replacing it with the B7 Avant

Actually, the 235s and the 18x8.5 rim do stick out, just a bit though.

However I've never had any issues with rubbing..not at all. my car has the sport suspension which is quite stiff, My swaybars are stonger than stock so body roll is not really an issue. And I haven't lowered the car at all.

Maybe I just got lucky by fluke....that the setup on my car allows some clearence for the 235s and 18x8.5s.

By the way....thanks for the correction on the B5 RS4 rims. I wasn't too sure myself.
