Exhaust system

Exhaust system
Hey guys, i have a 2001 A4 1.8t with stock everything and was thinking of upgrading exhaust and air intake. what im looking for is an agresive sound but i dont wont the typical "tin can-rice burner" sound that a lot of import cars get when the exhaust is done. im thinking turbo back and possibly getting rid of the cat if it makes a different, so any suggestions on exhaust or intake would be awesome
Thanks

Re: Exhaust system
I own a 2001 S4 and did the entire exhaust myself. The following is what the system consists of:
Gutted downpipes (piggie pipes), two magnaflow high flow stainless cats, and one dual in, dual out magnaflow muffler. The system is a full dual 2.5" system.
My personal opinion is that it's WAY too loud. There's a drone in the cabin at cruising speeds and when the system isn't really warm, it has an awful raspy sound to it around 3-4k rpm.
Sound is a personal preference, but my advice is to keep the cat regardless of what you do. Think about your childrens lungs and seriously, a good cat is cheap and doesn't impede flow very much...400hp with dual cats is very respectable and environmental.
If you're worried about the sound, do a cat-back only. If you're willing to go through 2-3 iterations of your exhaust config. to get what you're looking for, do the turbo back.
Just my 2 cents.
