Engine Oil Light

Re: Engine Oil Light
well oil pressure could be an easy repair or it could be the hard one. Easy way out is the electric cable going behind engine ripped and just needs to be re soldiered. I used to rip mine every few months when i push my car, its kind of annoying now. Last time i added some slack to it so 4 months and all good so far.
EDIT: defiantly stop driving and get it checked though

Re: Engine Oil Light
Thanks for the info every one, was at Sauble Beach for the long weekend. Just got home.
The light that comes and goes is the top left one out of the 6 displays, which I assume is the Engine Oil Light. It does not come and stay, but rather comes on beeps and goes away.
This only happens, when I am taking fast turns.
Also this will be my first Oil change since I bought the car, because oil was changes right before I bought it at 123K.
I am going to take this as a sign and schedule an oil change. But for the next few days, I am going to top it up.
OP, if that was your oil pressure light coming on, you need to stop driving your car immediately and tow it to someone who knows what they're doing. Your particular 1.8T is susceptible to sludge and will kill your engine if there's enough of it.
If it was your oil level light, top up your oil; but, you really shouldn't be using such long oil-change intervals on your engine.

Re: Engine Oil Light
Hey Guys,
Hopefully this is not as serious as I hope.
So first thing I did was to check the oil level. Pulled out the dipstick cleaned and checked the level again. There was no oil on the dip stick. The car was in level ground. But the engine was not warm.
So I started the engine and let it run for a few minutes, then checked the dipstick and there was oil on it. So cleaned it and checked the level again, this time nothing.
Picked up a 5L Castrol 5W-40 and poured some in. After pouring about half a liter there was oil level on the dipstick. I poured a little bit more and the dipstick showed maximum level. I did not have to pour the full 5Ls, before the dip stick showed a maximum limit. I probably would have poured between 1/3 and 2/3 of the full tank.
So, now I am concerned if the engine was actually running with no oil which would have caused the car to overheat and break down some time, or the engine was not warm enough to register the oil level on the dip stick ?
Regardless, I have scheduled an oil change at AginCourt for Monday.

Re: Engine Oil Light
Well just use the ip stick directly to the right. Our engines take 4 liters of oil so if its at max then its at 4 liters if its at min then its closer to 2 or so, not sure about the math, just pour some in the engine, wait for a few minutes until it pours down to the pan and check again.
1.8t are nutorious for engine sludge which will hurt your engine in the long run and alot of repair bills. So doing it ever 5-6 k is a must. On the v6 model doing oil every 7-8 is still fine but 5k should be a limit. The advertised 10-12 and so is the maximum threshold. so i wouldn't push it, especially with the aged car. oil life is also said to be about 3 months in the engine, most people hit 3 months way before the 10-12 k mark, usually abut 5-6 so it works out well.
I used to use regular oil and change it every 3k but that just got to be a lot of hassle and time and i get a good deal at krown lakeshore on royal purple so i go with that now highly recommend that oil, I personally think its the best, so do alot of other people. Check out the royal purple site ;D
And i recommend doing seafoam treatment every 2-3 oil changes, there is a guide in D.I.Y section, its very easy in all honesty. I posted a youtube video on where to pour what, its very very hard to mess up doing it

When I bought the car at 123K, I did do an engine decarbonizing, when I did my first oil change. Brendon at DCB auto did it.
Can you post the link for the Seafoam D.I.Y ?

Re: Engine Oil Light
Rraj, it really sounds like you should just follow Audi's scheduled maintenance at the shop of your choice. Running 12,000KM OCI and ~2.5L short of full oil capacity on a German turbocharged engine - especially one known for having oil issues - is crazy; but, obviously, you didn't seize it. Who knows how much the engine's life was shortened...

Re: Engine Oil Light
Hey Guys,
This is becoming wierd. I checked the oil level today, and it is only showing at the minimum level. The Oil level light is not on.
I did the Oil Change two months ago, and did about 300K till now.
Is there a certain temperature I have to check the engine oil level at, as in Cold Engine or Hot engine, if so when is the ideal time.
I know I cant be burning oil at this rate, and plus I know there is no leak.
Has any one else experienced this issue ?
I found these two videos about others having this issue, one with an S4 and another with a Toureg,
Oil Level Check Cold en Yahoo! Video
YouTube - Volkswagen Touareg Oil level too low with cold engine?
I am going to take it for a drive and check what the level is after.

Re: Engine Oil Light
Hey Guys,
So I drive the car on the weekend and parked it for two whole days and checked the engine oil level today.
It is only showing midway between the minimum and maximum level. This is what I saw after driving it for a bit on Sunday as well.
So, what I would like to know is what is causing this reading level. Is something serious going on under the hood, as I don't see any noticeable leaks. Would the engine be actually burning that much oil, if so it goes beyond being ridiculous.
Could it be that the 5W40 oil does not drain properly into the oil pan, and still sit in the engine.
Going to half the level of Oil only after 300 KM is simply not something I would have expected.
Can some one please shed some wisdom into this matter please ?
Thanks
