Changing Tiptronic Shift ****

Has anyone done this? Gone from the big ugly to something more sporty? I've done some research and most seem to get a tiptronic mod kit that allows you to put any shift **** on. But to change gears you pull up on the ****.

Are there other options without having to use the mod kit? Thanks ahead.
