b5 A4 headlight blub replacement
Hey guys,
I am having trouble finding the correct way to change a head light bulb. I have done plenty of research. I have found people pulling there whole front bumper to just pulling the bulb out of the back of the headlight. I try to get the bulb out of the back and still no luck. Any other suggestions or video's?
Thanks guys

You can remove the headlight assembly pretty easily. There are 2 Torx Bolts on the top of the head light and one hidden one down this hole.
You will need an extension in order to get it out. The way that works for me is to loosen the bolt but not fully. Insert a telescoping magnetic pick up tool like this
and insert it in the hole to unscrew it the rest of the way. Otherwise you will drop it on to the belly pan and will have to remove that in order to get it.
Once you have removed the 3 bolts, when standing in front of your car, pull gently on the turn signal side and wiggle it towards you. There is a clip that the head lamp sits in closest to the center of the vehicle so when you wiggle towards you, gently tug towards the corners of the car. It should pop out. Unplug the main and turn signal light bulb connector and you should be able to remove the entire lamp assembly. Now you should be able to remove the protective cover and unclip the light bulb, replace and reclip. Install in reverse order.
One thing to note so you're not swearing from having to take your headlamp out more than you have to is there is a speed nut that holds the hidden bolt that floats around on the frame. You want to make sure that you have it lined up before you put your headlamp back in. When you reinsert it, make sure not to disrupt the nut as you slide the headlamp as it will move and you will be cursing when you go to put the bolt back in and the hole is no where to be seen. Out comes the headlamp again. If you miss it a couple times, you will get good at it by the time this is over. Just make sure you can see the bolt hole once you have the head lamp inserted and you are golden. You don't have to have the headlamp in it's final resting place as you can manipulate it with the bolts loose, half bolted down.
When reinstalling the head lamp, this is where the magnetic pick up tool really comes in handy. Take the bolt and stick it on the end of the tool and gently insert it in the hole being careful not to touch the edges or it may suddenly stick to the metal and dislodge your bolt making it fall. Once you get it past the hole's edges you can use the magnetic tool to turn the bolt to start it. The rest is simple. Good luck.

Re: b5 A4 headlight blub replacement
are you serious.... I dont take mine out.
You are talking about the lowbeams(even the highbeams) right? You can remove and replace the low beam bulbs with NO tools required. There's a back cover held by ONE clip on the top. You pull it up, then the back cover comes losose. The H7 bulb is held by a tensioned clip. You squeeze it and remove in an angle. Voila. I can do both in 5min.
as for the passenger headlight, you'll need to remove the fresh air duct. again, no tools required.
if you look at that picture, you can even see the highbeam clip for the back cover. The low beam would be to the right of that. I just really hope you read my post before attempting to go through all that hassle.... I remember I spent a good 15min unscrewing screws when I tried to replace a bulb for the rear lights once too...To have only figured out a second later that its all clips haha.

I'd like your comment above. Thanks!
It seems quite straight forward, except I'm doing it first time. You do have a video/picture? If you do can you please post it for me?
Thanks a million ))

Re: b5 A4 headlight blub replacement
Sorry Loo, it seems like your model is the B6/B7 platform. I wouldnt know the exact way. I'm sure it'll be similar in a way. If you take the time to just look in the back of the headlight, you could figure it out.
