the plug isnt actually loose, its the wires going into the male side of the coil plug, they are cracked n bare, so they short out

Hey Jordon,

Yes, this is my concern. Since the Coil is sticking out a bit if the coil might be loose and not making a good connection with the plug. Also with moisture

But, since I changed it I have not had an issue. The car always starts, runs and idles without any rough timings, even when the temp dipped to -20.

So for now I am going to leave it, and when the weather improves a bit, I will see if I can work on getting the stuck screw extracted and put a new one.

Nothing is loose, nor is anything shorting out. His car is running fine, just that his coils stick out the top a little. He HAD bad coils, then changed them, while changing, he broke the bolt that holds them down. Read the thread. He has no issues of shorting out or misfires, and the guy who mentioned a misfire is not the original poster.

Back in 2009 two of my coils went on my TT 1.8 and I did some research on coils. Found out that the most reliable coil was made by Hitachi and i vaguely remember that the part number had an "E" in it. However, this coil doesn't just plug into the engine block but requires the use of two bolts to mount each coil (the bolt holes are already on the engine block), also you need to buy some thin rubber seals for to bottom of the Hitachi coils so that when it sits on the engine block it's properly sealed.

I bought these coils at Don Valley VW - they still had 4 in stock and I paid $160 for all of them taxes in.

Never had an issue since. And when Audi Canada sent me the coil recall letter in summer of 2010, I just submitted my sales receipt from Don Valley VW and got fully reimbursed =)
