Re: Advise on Ignition Coils
Since later heads did not have the bolts, I think you will probably be fine. Worst case scenario, drive it like that until something goes wrong.... But I really think it will be ok

Re: Advise on Ignition Coils
Well, I used a scan tool and the dreaded code of "misfire - cylinder 6" came up. My Audi is a 1998 A4 Quattro. I was looking at the Audi forum when I came upon this thread and thought to myself that I never checked it the coil can be replaced individually or would I have to buy a coil pack? I am on a budget, so if I can get away with it, I'll buy two and use one as a spare.

Re: Advise on Ignition Coils
The reason I am a bit concerned is because,
The Coils I bought unlike the OEM ones that were there, are sticking out maybe a 6th of an Inch above the head. The rubber hose does seem to have a good connection with the Spark Plug, but sticking out a bit.
With it not being securely bolted, should I be concerned with moisture and condensation, especially during Winter ?
I am going to try a Bolt Extractor next weekend and see if I can bore out the stuck screw. Something you guys would recommend doing or no ?

i had experienced same problem save yourself big $ peel back the rubber boot by the clip on each coil tube, might be hardened a lil. mine had bare wires arcking across on all 4 if em, got some tape and taped em up, been good for 3 months.

If you read the thread, you will see his coils are not the problem, they are new. His issue is that he broke the bolt that connects them. I would nit recommend cutting/taping your coils.

Re: Advise on Ignition Coils
I gotcha now.... I still don't think that is his prob though.... His coil is sticking up vertically out of the head. I don't think he is saying that the electrical plug is loose on the coil.
