I have a 1997 audi a4 quattro, currently broken and has been for some time, been talking to people to help me decide whats wrong with it and i still havent found an exact problem.

My car runs but doesnt move. I can turn it on and it will run and idle just fine but when i put it in gear and let the clutch out the car doesnt move, but my speedometer will go up when i give it gas and put it in any gear, couple people i have talked to say my clutch is gone but nobody knows for sure, like i said i can put the car in gear and the speedometer will go up so something is getting power and what cuz when i push my clutch back in the speedo will drop to 0 agian.

So if anyone one has a better idea then me it would be greatly appreciated!

is the car all wheel drive or front wheel drive, sounds like a broken axle or driveshaft, if the rear driveshafts broken no power will transmit anywhere due to the torsen centre diff
