Thumping sound once clutch engages!!
I have a 2006 Audi S4 with 32000kms on it. The car for the most part runs great except sometimes shifting gears is rather abrupt.It sounds like a dull thump. Has anyone else had this problem? It is more noticable when shifting from 1st to 2nd and then third. Thanks.

Axel thanks for the info. I had no idea the motor mounts would make such a difference. Any idea on cost to install at dealership?

The proper way is to remove the front bumper. Once that's done, it's pretty quick to install.
Overall, a dealership might charge two hours worth of work maybe (I find they tend to round up).
I would recommend a good independent vag shop but I don't know where you are, etc.
One thing to note though. If you don't get the second piece (in other words, if you only get the actual snub mount), whoever installs it need to be aware of this: After installing the snub into place, BEFORE tightening up everything, the car should idle for a few minutes to ensure the snub mount is properly centered and not touching the sides. Then it can be tightened. If this isn't done and the snub mount touches the side, you will feel excess vibrations. If you get the second piece, then this is pretty much moot since it's made to NOT have any give.

Actually the warranty has expired. It was more out of convenience since they are located about 5 minutes from my place.
Axel do you have any recommendations of a good shop for doing this. I also wondered if the Audi RS mounts would work..!!! Parts guy was not sure and he could not cross reference this. Do you know if that also could work.
You would think the engine mounts would last alot longer than 34k...

As for your second question, I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Which RS mounts? If you mean the RS4 snub mount, it doesn't have one.

Axel I am located in Hamilton. Yes I was talking about the Audi RS4 mounts. Yeah you were right about the front bumper. I could not see the front mount under the hood. Hopefully not too big a job to replace these.

As for a mechanic, I don't know any in Hamilton but if you go to the "Golden Horseshoe" section of this forum, someone should be able to point you in the right direction.
