3M Protection on front hood Pros/Cons?
Does anyone have any feed back on the 3M protection for their cars. My car is black and I have seen some older cars were it has been removed and it is clearly visible on the paint.
Anyone have any thoughts on this..??
Thanks..

Mine has saved me numerous times in previous cars. I will always get it when buying a car.. Maybe not on a truck since they are so high. One thing I did notice with my S4 is that there are so many edges on the new front that it is a very difficult installation. I've noticed dirt being trapped along a couple of the edges.

I notice you have a white car and you see you see some dirt building up. Based on this and the other cars you had would get this on a black car, where you can see everything.
Also have you ever taken it off and how was the condition of the paint finish. Can you see the difference from where the 3m was and was not.
Thanks.

i would do it in a heart beat. not a fan of it on my white car that it looks slightly different color under certain lighting. i can see though that id has save few a chips already! if i had an exotic i would do the front bumper, full hood and head lights but its just an audi so just front of hood. =)

I've never taken it off a vehicle before, but I have read what was said above. After a polish and a bit of maintenance it shouldn't be noticeable. I had my dealer install the 3M before I picked the car up, but if I were to do it again I would try XPEL Ultimate or another brand. One of them has a 10 year warranty.

I have a black a4 and kicking myself for not having the 3M done when I got it...i commute gardiner/427/401 and my hood looks like *** from mainly small chips.
I know that doesn't answer your question about sun fade on covered vs. uncovered part of hood, but I would think that if you wax frequently to keep the effects of UV at a minimum on the unprotected part, the fade would be negligible by the time it comes to replace the 3M.

Thanks everyone the info was great. I guess the verdict I have been hearing is it's worth getting over having a bunch of stone chips. I guess when it comes to to replace it, I could always put another 3m on and you shouldn't notice any fade.
thanks..

Look into getting Suntec instead. It's an affordable new self-healing film that's very similar to paint clear coat in terms of sheen and light reflection. I had 3M in my older car and it's rather noticeable since it has a slight orange peel look to it, not as glossy like the paint clear coat.
