TFSI or TSI in A3
Which motor does the 2012 A3 have?
When I lift the hood on my 2011 GTI it says TSI, when I lift the hood on my 2012 A3 it says TFSI.
When I go to the APR website under their ECU tune for current gen A3 (8P) they list both the 2.0T FSI and the 2.0 TSI!!!!!
The sales guy tells me they are the same motor and that TFSI is Audi's acronym for fuel injection?!?
Anyone have any insight????

Re: TFSI or TSI in A3
FSI - Fuel Stratified Injection - this is a normally Volkswagen (Audi) aspirated petrol direct injection engine system with the difference that the petrol is directly injected in to the cylinders on the induction and compression (phase 4) stroke engine, resulting in fuel savings and better engine efficiency (better torque).
TSI - Turbocharger Stratified Injection (Volkswagen)– this Direct petrol injection is combined with a turbocharger or charge compression with a turbo and a supercharger working in tandem (twin turbocharger). This enhances the engine's combustion efficiency so the TSI engine power output is much higher than that of conventional, naturally aspirated engines.
TFSI - Turbocharger Fuel Stratified Injection (Audi) – Very similar than TSI engine, this Direct petrol injection is combined with a turbocharger or charge compression with a turbo and a supercharger working in tandem (twin turbocharger). This enhances the engine's combustion efficiency so the TSI engine power output is much higher than that of conventional, naturally aspirated engines.
But, in the reality, TFSI is the same thing as TSI, it's just that VW dropped the 'F' on the badging. The engine design seems the same, otherwise is very very similar.
2012 A3 have the TFSI engine:
2.0 R4 16v TSI/TFSI 132-155kW ( EA888 )
Manufacturing start March 2008.
identification parts code prefix: 06H, 06J; ID codes: CAEA, CAEB, CAWB, CCZA, CDNB, CDNC
