Default Rusting 2007 A3

I am extremely disappointed to have discovered rust on my 2007 A3 3.2 along the base of the door and behind the front tires. My Audi mechanic says it is a design flaw and I think he is right since I saw another older A3 with more rust in the exact same area.

My Audi dealer (Popular Audi in Montreal) did nothing but forward my claim for repair to Audi Canada which has refused to take any responsibility. I don't believe a luxury car of this type should rust so quickly and easily.

Any others with this problem and any resolution from Audi?

I had a rust problem on my 2006—just with the hatch. My dealer had it checked out with their external contractor. The dealer rep. said it was unlikely I was going to get it repaired, but when I took it to the contractor (a huge place in west Toronto), they told me Audi is always trying to wriggle out of the 10 year rust deal. He actually checked the fenders for rust saying it was a common problem with the model, and I ended up getting those covered too.

Just remember, as long as you haven't re-painted, you should be covered. Fight harder. Contact Audi head office, and most importantly, don't take your dealer at their word. If I did, I'd have a rusty heap with a blown motor long ago (dealer also tried to trick me out of an intake cam replacement).

Thank you for your reply. What is a contractor (vs a dealer)?
I did contact Audi Head Office and they refused my claim.
You are telling me their is a 10 year rust warranty?
What do I have to do to be more persuasive in getting them to repair my car?
Hire a lawyer? Are there other ways? Organizations that represent consumers?

Often the manufacturer won't do anything unless the rust perforates the metal. ie there is a hole through it. If you didn't have any luck with the service dept at your dealer talk to the sales person you bought the car from. Sales often has influence and also know the ropes.

I believe the corrosion/perforation warranty is currently12 years but may be 10 for older models.

Don't acquiesce I've read many threads that say Audi replaced body panels due to corrosion causing paint failure. It just has to be clear that it's not caused by abuse like rock chips paint scratches etc. Don't be afraid to contact another dealer. Also try to find out which body shops in your area are approved by Audi and then pay them a visit for their advise.
