Default My key has gone crazy!

I have no idea what has happened but somehow my keys for 09 A3 now unlocks and locks my car by proximity; when the key is close it unlocks, key is far it locks, trunk unlcks if the key is near - very much like the audi advanced keys for a4 and up, but this is the owld switchblade key. Weird thing is, they didn't do this until yesterday, when you had to press lock/unlock/trunk. Anyone know how I set this and how I can set it back and forth between these functions?

Sounds like the switch buttons are stuck in the on position (kinda like if you spill coke on a computer keyboard). Is your battery OK? Try pushing all the buttons to see if you can unstick the membrane switch or whatever Audi uses.

Thank for the reply. I will try this, but I don't thin that is the problem since when in range the buttons work fine. i.e. I can lock and unlock the car doors when in range but if say I lock the car and stay in range, the car will eventually unlock again. Alos, the red LED on the key fob blinks in regular intervals while in range without pressing any buttons and stops blinking when out of range.

Don't know the reset procedure for the A3, but this is the documented one for the A4.
  • Unlock the car manually
  • Press the unlock button on the remote
  • Insert key into ignition and turn to on position (no need to start car)
  • Turn key to off position and remove key from ignition
  • Press lock or unlock buttons to end the reset sequence
