I wasn't particularly happy about doing that, either, so I ordered from TireRack. I bought some Rial rims made in Germany for A3 for around $100 a pop. Actually, I ordered them with tires mounted on them. About $1100 CDN total.

I did find the audi OEM's for $177 a piece. Not too bad.

No problem. At my dealer they had a package deal with 16" rims and Michelin Primacy tires mounted, balanced, and installed, for $1650, IIRC. Definitely a good package and the least hassle, but at $1100, tax incl, I was willing to do a bit of legwork. Best of luck to you!

I spent a day scourin the city (GTA) for deals on steelies and winter tires.

I decided on a 205/55/16 as my winter rim size.

There are several reasons why i did this:

1) 55/16 is pretty much equivalent to a 45/17 (stock) so your odometer/speedometer won't be outta wack.

2) Smaller tire = cheaper

3) 205 vs 225 ( thinner tire is way better for the winter as it cuts through the snow better )

I purchase a set of the steelies from City Auto and Tire in Richmond Hill ( Cash no tax, $50 each steelie) - its located on a street called Red Maple, just east of 16th Ave and Yonge

Then I went to Canadian Tire and purchased 4 of the Hankook I-Pike Winter Tires at $109 a piece. I went with Canadian Tire because I'm scared of buying some knockoff **** from one of the smaller indepedent retailers.

Anyway, install, mounting, balancing etc - cost me around $700 for snowies.
