Expensive scheduled maintenance!

Expensive scheduled maintenance!
My wife drives a 06 A3 3.2 Quattro DSG. We will need the 85k km service done pretty soon. The previous scheduled maintenance were done under Audi Care so we have no idea how much it cost. Since we are out of Audi care and warranty, I asked my wife to call around to compare prices. The local dealer's quote for 85K service is $700! A local indy (Eurasia)'s quote was even higher ~ $900!
How could a 85K service be costing this much? According to the 2006 scheduled service description, 85K service is just engine oil change, spark plugs and air filter, some lubing plus a bunch of checking and road test. How could this be a 4+ hours job? I think this is just B.S.

I change my own filters, oil, plugs etc and I am not a mechanic.

Re: Expensive scheduled maintenance!
Agree, This is not hard. I have the 2007 3.2. Have done all those things myself. Takes a couple hours.
Spark plugs will run you about 22 bucks x 6.
Oil and Filter about 60
Air Filter i think is around 25.
You can find a bunch of DIY on the web with pics on how to take out the spark plugs (really simple)
Cheers

Thanks for the responses.
I understand the scheduled maintenance stuff are not hard and the supplies are not expensive. That's exactly why I was shocked at the quoted prices from the dealership and the indy shop. Do they think servicing the European cars give them the license to gouge? Or Audi owners are willing to line their pockets with cash?

Re: Expensive scheduled maintenance!
Maybe they charge an hours of work for taking off the engine cover under the car ha ha I dont know. To be honest its easier to change the oil in my A3 then it is in my Civic. The filter is right in front of the car no reaching required.
The DSG fluid change does take a bit more work just the fluid and the filter are expensive to get. I think i was quoted 25$ for 1L and you need 6L plus the filter which i think was 30 it adds up.

Re: Expensive scheduled maintenance!
I think you have been misquoted. I asked one of our service advisors here at Taylor Audi in Regina and he suggested that the 85000 km service is a two hour service that should cost no more than $400 with parts and labour. I would go back to your local dealer and ask them to give you a printed quote on what they are doing for the price they have quoted you. It sounds like you may have been quoted for the 115000 km service instead, which would be around $900.
