My wife had an 2008 A3 for the past 3 years. It was a brand new car, but not too long after we had the car, it started with some very frequent engine oil problem that the engine oil light will come on every few weeks. We been to the dealer too many times and eventually gives up and just refill the oil whenever the light comes on.
It appears to be a common problem with some 2.0T engine. First thing you should check will be the service history and see if the car you are looking at has similar problem. It also had an incident where the heating system was suddenly gave out when it was -20 outside. The window was completely frozen, so the car had to be towed back to the dealer.
Well, the car will be return to Audi at the end of the lease. That being said, my wife likes the car in terms of style and the power, so we end up getting another A3 (Quattro this time) believe it or not.
We will be picking that up tomorrow night, wish us better luck this time.
