Advanced Handling Package: Do I need it?
So I'm thinking of getting a new S3 and one of the options that has me stumped is the Advanced Handling Package. The sales guy explained it to me as follows:
I think this covers the technical side of things quite well...but do I need this option? I do like to have fun with twists and turns, whether it's a cross-country drive into the Rockies and beyond or one of the smaller highways off the beaten path in WA...but never having had this feature, I don't really know what to expect, when it would come into play and/or make a difference most, and, most importantly, whether I need it at all.
Any advice from those who have had the option would be greatly appreciated!
The car corners with agility and responds spontaneously to steering inputs. The normal mode is geared more towards comfort to help eliminate driving fatigue on long journeys. With Audi magnetic ride, the liquid contained in the dampers has so-called magneto-rheological properties. Tiny magnetic particles are bound inside the basic oil which is used to fill the dampers.
When a magnetic field is applied, the magnetic particles are aligned against the direction of movement of the damper. As a result, the damping force of the damper is increased depending on the strength of the magnetic field. This allows the firmness of the dampers to be increased or decreased within a fraction of a second.
