Default 17" BBS LM on Audi A3 S-Line (Stock Suspension) - Will This Work?

Hey all -

I am just about to pick up a set of 17" BBS LM's for my '08 US Spec Audi A3. I was hoping that you guys could provide your expertise on whether or not this setup will work without rubbing;

Note: I am currently running the stock S-Line Suspension

The BBS LMs will be;

Front: 17 x 8 (40mm)
Rear: 17 x 9 (42mm)

My fenders are rolled - but I haven't taken out the screw or trimmed as many of you have.

I really do not want to run stretched tires - so I was thinking 225/17/45's for the front and maybe 245/17/40's in the rear. I also do not plan on lowering (unless it looks 100% ridiculous).

What size tire would you recommend and/or do you think I will run into any problems?

Thanks!!!!
Brent

first off, good choice in wheels... They will fit with the specs you have provided. Watch the tire size you pick if you are going to drop the car...I think lowering the car is a good idea, even if you just do it by adding some springs. 245 for the rear seems big to me, but maybe someone that has run that size can chirp in.
I run 225 all around and they are slightly stretched on my wheel (sucks as i will hit rim off almost anything) however i went with that size as it has no rubbing issues.

Thanks for the feedback ackerman! So just to clarify - If I do run 245's in the rear with the given setup I should not experience any rubbing (so long as I remove the screw/lining/etc.

What setup are you running ... 225's and slightly stretched would mean you are on 18x9's?

Thanks!

I cant say for sure, thats why i want someone running that setuP to say something... Research! I am running 19x8.5" with 225 35 19 there are people with spacers on their cars and wide tires so im sure it can be done... Reaserch! There are other sites out there like audiworld audizine etc
but i would try for a 50mm offset as if u get a 35mm offset ur more likely to rub
And to be super clear about my set up, i have it lowered with coils 19x8.5 et.50 225 tire stock fenders(not rolled)

Thanks for your help!

I have done tons of research and can't find anyone on a 17x9 wheel... so not sure what to make of it. Also hard to find someone who is just cruising on the sline suspension (most are dropped)
Throw in offset and things really start to get cloudy.

Hopefully someone can shed some additional insight - but thanks so much for all of your help ackerman!

Ackerman,

They are going to break up a set for me! What do you guys think about this setup?

1) 17x8 (front with 45mm offset)
2) 17x8 (rear with 40mm offset)

This should be flush/clean, right?

BKN- use the 45mm offset for the rear, & the 40mm offset for the front.. , 45MM offset will be flush to the fenders, as the front @ 40MM will be close enough, which will give you the stance you need when the car is lowered... (PS) Most importantly how many inches are the lips on the rims? Staggard? or the same?

Thanks Greddy! This is creative / actually makes sense.

I believe the lips to be the same on all the rims (or not a noticeable difference). Is this because you were thinking it may look weird with the more aggressive wheel in the front? I don't think this will be a concern as the lip will be small on both).

Although - when I look - there looks to be more room in the rears than the fronts? Is this not the case? There is more room in the front than the rears?

Thanks!
Brent

Best way is to measure the lips with measuring tape, now lets say the wheels with the 45mm have 3 inch lips, & the wheels with the 40mm are the same ( 3 inches) then use the 45mm wheels in the rear & 40mm in the front.. ( This is what comes to play- Say The rim is 17 X 8 with 38 offset and you have another pair 17 X 7.5 with 50 offset Then they are almost the same width.. There are sites that give you spot on calculations but what you need to know is that 45 offest is greater then 40, considering that both wheels are at "" 17 x 8""

Got it - this makes sense. But why put the more aggressive wheels in the front? Isn't there more clearance in the rear than in the front?

I am lowered on h&r springs - i'm not sure if this changes things ...

Thanks!
